‘Request to exempt Pune was turned down’

City BJP chief Vikas Matkari said they had requested the state BJP to exempt the Pune unit from the nation-wide bandh given that Ganesh festival had begun.

City BJP chief Vikas Matkari said they had requested the state BJP to exempt the Pune unit from the nation-wide bandh given that Ganesh festival had begun. “Our request was turned down by the state unit. We were asked to ensure that the public transport is not affected,” he said, adding that the party would try to implement the bandh by asking citizens to participate in it.

However, senior BJP leaders maintained that the bandh was unlikely to affect the city. “Party activists are busy with Ganesh festival celebrations. Hence, not many will participate in the bandh,” a BJP leader said.
