This year,St Vincent College of Commerce, will complete 40 years. The college was founded in 1970 by Fr Walter de Souza with a core group of committed staff members among whom was Prof Michael P Parmar,Panackal and myself.
Prof Parmar is no more with us. He has left me alone with a treasury of memorable moments to lead a good life as well as ways to handle adversities. In fact,he was the architect of my successful teaching career and was an elder brother to me.
These thoughts always help me through uncertainties. I knew him for well over 30 years as a friend. He saw me through the best and worst.
Prof Parmar taught me how to teach in a simple, modest style; how to handle mischievous students, troublesome situations; how to counsel students in their difficulties. He dedicated his entire life teaching from the heart. He motivated teachers like me. The tree that provided shade to others throughout his life passed away on July 10,2010. Prof Parmar was indeed a legend. His legacy is the testimony of the numerous past students who thronged in great numbers to bid him farewell at his funeral.
