City-based musicians share fond memories of late music arranger and composer,Anil Mohile
Music arranger and composer Anil Mohile, who passed away on February 1 at his residence in Mumbai at the age of 71,is best remembered for his collaborations with singers Lata Mangeshkar and Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar in many of their on-stage performances. Mohile is also fondly remembered by the Pune’s music fraternity as a disciplined doyen of multiple strands of musical composition.
Mohile had a long abiding connection with the Hindi film industry and arranged music for films like Don,Dhumdhadaka and Dhadake Baj to name a few.
Mohile’s disciple Neha Rajpal remembers him as a person who never thought twice before giving breaks to new comers. She says,He was my guru in live music. He taught me how to sing in a studio. Rajpal’s first Marathi song, which was a Diwali special number for the film Manus ,was recorded under Mohile. She had met him two days before his demise at a city event. He blessed me after I sang his favourite Lata Mangeshkar song,Yeh dil tum bin lagta nahin, Rajpal added. Apart from the music, she learned strict discipline from Mohile. He was very particular about timings.
Music arranger Kamlesh Bhadkamkar worked with Mohile for a brief period, but learned enough for a lifetime. He taught me to arrange and adapt any style of music. He would never compromise on the quality of songs produced. His valuable thoughts will be etched in my mind forever, he said.
