During Pune RTO’s enforcement operations last year, People had a number of frequent issues with autorickshaw drivers such as refusal to ply, overcharging and tampered speedometers. Of 2,495 rickshaws inspected, as many as 1,613 were found guilty and faced disciplinary action.

From April to December 2023, RTO data revealed that nearly 90 complaints had been registered against auto drivers for refusing rides in Pune. Additionally, 72 cases of meter tampering and nearly 60 instances of drivers overcharging fares were detected in the same period.

RTO officials also reported significant problems with rude drivers, leading to action against 57 drivers, while 1,324 cases fell under other categories.

Bhor said the RTO receives various complaints everyday from commuters in Pune, which is why the RTO decided to address public concerns. “Issues such as auto drivers refusing to ply, overcharging, meter tampering, and other disputes will be reported and resolved. The system will start operations by June 1,” he said.
