The case against Dr Makarand Ranade and Dr Nina Mathrani,registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC-PNDT) in the court of JMFC K P Jain on Friday,moved lightning fast. Arguments were heard,issue process orders given and summons prepared,all in a day. The next hearing is on July 13.
The doctors were arrested following a sting operation. On Friday,incidentally Doctors’ Day in India,the PMC,Dr Vaishali Jadhav and Advocate Milind Salunkhe (PMC special counsel for PC-PNDT cell) took up the challenge to complete legal formalities in a day. Salunkhe said Ranade and Mathrani have been booked for violating 19 sections of the Act. They includes incorrect filling of Form F,not taking the consent of the pregnant woman before conducting ultrasound examination ,failing to completely fill various columns in the form that gives details of the woman,and communicating the sex of the foetus.
