Ramchandra Bhat wins chess tournament

Ramchandra Bhat won the monthly invitational chess tournament organised jointly by the Club of Maharashtra Ltd,Pune,and the Buddhibal Vishwa at the Club of Maharashtra Hall recently.

Ramchandra Bhat won the monthly invitational chess tournament organised jointly by the Club of Maharashtra Ltd,Pune,and the Buddhibal Vishwa at the Club of Maharashtra Hall recently.

In six rounds,Bhat earned a total of five points to emerge the winner.

In the sixth and final round,Bhat lost to eighth-seeded Harshit Raja while second placed and fifth-seeded Pourus Kolagne got the better of fourth-seeded Nikhil Ranade.

This meant that Bhatt and Pourus were tied with five points. Bhat however,held his nerve and beat Pourus in a tiebreak game to win the title.

Results (final round): Harshit Raja (5.5) bt Ramchandra Bhat (5); Nikhil Ranade (4) lost to Pourus Kolagne (5); Rutuja Desai (4) drew with Suhas Chincholikar (4); Pushkar Saraf (3.5) lost to Atharva Madkar (4.5); Ardhendu Mandal (4) bt Kanaad Afle (3); Prateek Ghumal (4) bt Aditya Madkar (3).

Final placing: Ramchandra Bhat,Pourus Kolagne,Atharva Madkar,Harshit Raja,Prateek Ghumal.
