Rains wreak havoc in Camp area

The rains may have put an end to water shortage, but it has worsened the condition of the city roads.

The rains may have put an end to water shortage, but it has worsened the condition of the city roads. In Camp and surrounding areas, residents and regular commuters have to deal with potholes, which seem to have become a permanent feature. “On the one hand, the traffic is increasing, and on the other, our roads are messed up,leading to the slowing of traffic,” rues Avanti Patil,a working professional. “I travel from Salisbury Park to my office in Camp, and there are two major pothole spots that I encounter. One just precedes the speed breaker that comes after the Golibar Maidan signal. The lower end of my car is ruined because of this spot. Another is at the left turn from Aurora Towers towards West-End theatre. There are about five or six potholes here, and I’ve even seen a girl almost lose balance on her bike because of this. It’s worse during the rains,” she adds.

Another Salisbury Park resident, recruitment consultant Shalina Khemlani is frustrated with the state of the roads in the area. She says,“There’s a huge pothole just outside the Gool Poonawalla Park, opposite the Sony Centre. I travel by bike, and find this pothole a real nuisance. When it’s raining,or during peak hour traffic, this zone is vulnerable to accidents.”

Real Estate consultant Aditya Valecha has to regularly pass the Ghorpadi Railway Crossing at BT Kawde Road. He describes,“I dread travelling via this area because of the major pothole at the crossing. It’s damaging for both cars and bikes. The traffic slows down here and mini jams are caused. It’s pathetic that nothing is being done about it.”
