The Pune Handmade Paper Institute is known for making the paper on which the Constitution of India is written. This year, they are holding the first Paperweek, an important initiative on origami, doodling, block printing, book-binding and making paper bags. The workshops will be conducted by artist Aditya Shirke. Also included are live art demos, a paper pop, a flea market of sustainable brands and a drumming session on the morning of May 21.

Colombo-based chef Anura’s trademark is working only with particular spices and ingredients sourced in Sri Lanka, but his dishes are modern representations of a timeless cuisine. In Pune, he will create Elawalu Katlet (vegetable cutlet), Sini Sambol Pun (spicy onion buns) and Elu Mas Kalu Pol (lamb in black curry), among others. Then, there are desserts such as Pol Topi (coconut toffee) and Kesel Kek (banana cake).

Viraj Joshi, the grandson of Pt Bhimsen Joshi, is carrying forward an illustrious legacy of the Kirana Gharana. He will take the stage with other stalwarts, such as pakhawaj player Shubham Ugale and vocalist Suranjan Khandalkar, at an event, titled ‘Deepak – A Source of Light’, which has been organised by Kathak dancer Sheetal Kolwalkar and Kathak Naad Productions.

Malaysian batik

A workshop will take participants into the world of the Malaysian Batik, a handicraft tradition marked by wax-resist dyeing and motifs of leaves, flowers and an occasional bird or butterfly. It is different from the Indian batik style. The workshop will cover types of silk fabric, preparation of wax and painting and dewaxing methods, among others. They will take back their own silk fabric creation as well as notes and other information.
