Police said the flow of vehicles on the procession route will be diverted on alternative roads. (File photo)Pune city police have announced certain changes in traffic during the procession to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet on Saturday.
While the Prophet’s birth anniversary was on September 16, the Ganesh immersion procession came on September 17. So the Seerat Committee in Pune decided to hold the birth anniversary procession on September 21.
Accordingly, the procession will start from Manushah Masjid in Nana Peth and conclude at City Jama Masjid in Shukrawar Peth. The procession will pass through various junctions and roads like the Sant Kabir Chowk, Chudaman Talim Chowk, Babajan Dargah Chowk, Shivaji Market to Central Street Road, Kohinoor Hotel Chowk to Mahatma Phule Chowk via Sachapir Street, Alpana Cinema to Hamjekhan Chowk to Govind Halwai Chowk via Maharana Pratap Road and finally from Subhanshah Dargah Chowk to City Jama Masjid.
A press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Amol Zende on Friday stated that parking of vehicles will not be allowed on the procession route.
Police said the flow of vehicles on the procession route will be diverted on alternative roads.
Police have appealed to the citizens coming for procession from Mundhwa, Kondhwa, Fatima Nagar, Wanavdi and Khadki areas to park their vehicles on the East Street in Pune Camp, between Sonya Maruti Chowk and Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Meanwhile, another procession to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad will be taken out from Asudkhana Chowk to Khadki Bazaar via Hole Road, Gopi Chowk, Tikaram Chowk and Jama Masjid in Khadki.
Police have appealed to the citizens not to park their vehicles and carts on this procession route. Traffic on the procession route will be diverted on alternative roads, as per the requirement, police said.
