Pune RTO nets Rs 43.53 crore from sale of exclusive number plates

The Pune RTO recorded a 37 percent increase in revenue from selling exclusive number plates for vehicles in 2023. The overall increase in revenue totalled to Rs 11.75 crore.

The auctioning of various fancy numbers for the vehicle owners becomes an additional source of revenue for the RTO, which collected Rs 43.53 crore in 2023, compared to Rs 31.78 crore the year before.

The highest amount paid for the number ‘1,’ taken from a series other than the LMV (light motor vehicle) series, was Rs 12 lakh. Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor said there has been a 27 percent increase in the number of vehicle owners acquiring fancy numbers in 2023 compared to the previous year.
