The accused, Pritam Oswal, is a resident of Uruli Devachi. He was arrested on August 31 on charges of rape and molestation.
On Monday around 7.30 pm, Oswal was brought to Magarpatta police station for investigation when he escaped from the police constables guarding him and fled the spot. He was chased by the on-duty police personnel but is said to have managed to escape in a vehicle.
Multiple teams were formed to search for Oswal. Probe revealed he had fled with his seized cellphone containing crucial evidence.
Around 10.30 pm, he was tracked down and arrested again from Alandi Ghat near Pune. The phone was also recovered.
An internal inquiry is being conducted into potential negligence by the on-duty police personnel. A separate case has been registered against Oswal for resisting lawful apprehension.
