Pune Porsche crash victim Ashwini Koshta’s brother wants trial in fast-track court
Samarpreet Koshta also says the minor boy who allegedly caused the drunk-driving accident in Pune last week should be tried as an adult.

Samarpreet Koshta, brother of the late Ashwini Koshta, has demanded the Pune Porsche crash case be tried in a fast-track court so that she gets speedy justice. He has also demanded the juvenile be tried as an adult as he said the latter might otherwise end up repeating the crime.
“A few years back, a 15-year-old boy similarly killed people while illegally driving a car. His father was arrested and the boy was tried as a juvenile. However, after serving his sentence, the juvenile, who by then had attained full adulthood, committed a similar crime,” Koshta said while speaking to The Indian Express from his hometown of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh
Samarpreet, a software engineer, said the Pune police had not officially got in touch with his family after the accident.
“Just a few days back we saw how the builder had tried to shift the blame on the driver. That’s why we want the case to be tried in a fast-track court,” he said.
On May 19, Ashwini and her friend Aneesh Awadhiya, both from Madhya Pradesh, died after a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the juvenile son of a Pune-based realtor hit their motorbike in the Kalyaninagar area of Pune. Both the software engineers and four of Ashwini’s friends were returning home after dinner when the accident happened.
The incident caused outrage as the Pune police were accused of mishandling the case. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar admitted negligence on part of the Yerwada police, following which two officers were transferred. The case was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch.
The juvenile, who the commissioner said was under the influence of alcohol, was given bail within 15 hours of the accident. The police appealed against the bail order, following which he was sent to the Yerwada observatory till June 5. Subsequently his father and grandfather were arrested.
At Jabalpur, the Koshtas are now trying to pick up the pieces after the tragedy. They have been contacted by local political leaders, who have assured them of all help possible.
