Pune police question gangster Gajanan Marne after social media posts glorify gangsters

In view of posts and reels glorifying gangsters and criminals on social media increasing, Pune city crime branch police questioned gangster Gajanan alias Gajya Marne on Saturday.
Crime branch officials warned Marne that he should not be involved in any criminal activities including spreading objectionable content on social media.

During a press conference recently, Commissioner of Pune City Police Amitesh Kumar had said a “surgical strike” would be carried out against persons posting content glorifying gangsters and criminals on social media.

A few months before, gangsters and their accomplices were given strict warning by the Pune city police following social media posts glorifying them. But, police have now again observed reels and other content magnifying the criminals.

Pune police has stepped up its vigilance on the criminal gangs following the murder of former corporator Vanraj Andekar, who was shot dead near his residence in Nana Peth on September 1.

Police have so far arrested 21 persons including Andekar’s sister Sanjivani, her husband Jayant Komkar, and a former gang member turned rival, Somnath Gaikwad in the murder case. Police have also detained three minors for their alleged involvement in the crime.

Amitesh Kumar had said that criminal intelligence units of the Pune city police have been asked to get every minute detail about the gangs in the city. “New steps are being taken to control the criminal gangs and maintain law and order,” he had said.

Accordingly, the crime branch questioned Gajanan Marne, who is influential in the Kothrud area. Marne was in the past booked for serious crimes including murder, attempt to murder and extortion. He is currently out on bail.
