Pune: Partially-burnt bodies of woman, two children found; murder probe launched
The dead bodies of a woman and two children were found in partially-burnt state, said Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill

THE PUNE Rural police have launched a murder probe after the partially-burnt bodies of a woman, estimated to be in her late twenties, and two children — believed to be her own — were discovered near Pune- Ahilyanagar Highway, close to Ranjangaon town in Shirur taluka Sunday morning. Initial findings suggest the victims may have been murdered elsewhere and their bodies transported and set on fire at the spot where they were discovered, officials said.
The three bodies were found around 150 metres away from Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway at Khandale village. The information about the bodies’ discovery was received by Pune Rural police around 11 am on Sunday from Police patil — a local functionary of Revenue Department working in coordination with the police — of the Khandale village.
Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill said, “After receiving information from Police Patil, teams were rushed to the location. The dead bodies of a woman and two children were found in partially-burnt state. Probe has been launched to establish their identities. Preliminary observations suggest the woman was aged between 25 to 30 and the children are aged around two years and four years. It seems that some kind of fuel was used to set their bodies on fire to destroy the evidence. We have registered a case of murder and a probe has been launched.”
Gill added, “We suspect that the three were murdered elsewhere and their bodies were brought here and set on fire. The post mortem of the deceased woman and children was conducted on Sunday evening. Multiple teams have been deployed for probe.”
After the incident was reported to the police, senior officers visited the location. A joint probe by the Ranjangaon police station and the Local Crime Branch of the Pune Rural police has been launched. Various forensic evidence was collected from the location and a team was looking into CCTV camera footage along on the approach routes to the location.
