A man in Pune district’s Khed allegedly killed a one-year-old boy earlier this month by dipping him repeatedly in a bucket of boiling water. The police said the accused was in an illicit affair with the boy's mother. The woman lodged a first information report (FIR) in this regard at Chakan police station early on Sunday. The police have booked the accused, identified as Khed resident Vikram Sharad Kolekar. As per the FIR, the accused also threatened to kill the complainant’s sister. According to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, the accused was having an affair with the complainant woman. On the morning of April 6, he allegedly went to the woman’s home in Khed, picked up her young son and dipped him in a bucket of boiling water as a result of which the baby sustained severe burns all over his body. “The accused initially told the complainant that her baby fell into the bucket while playing. The baby was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to the burn injuries,” said Senior Police Inspector Vaibhav Shingare. “However, the complainant later suspected that her baby was murdered by the accused. She has filed a complaint and a probe has been launched. The accused is yet to be arrested,” the inspector said. Officers said the complainant works as a dancer and lives separately from her husband. The accused has been booked under sections 302 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
