The divider at Gangadham-Shatrunjay Road, off Katraj-Kondhwa road, caused another accident on Sunday night. A car crashed into the divider which led to a two-wheeler piling up behind it at around 10 PM. Last month, The Indian Express had reported that this divider caused constant accidents — as many as two crashes per month. The Pune Municipal Corporation Road Department was yet to take any action in regards to this dangerous spot even after being made aware about it.

Dentist Umesh Phad, who lives near the divider, provided first aid to accident victims at the spot. He said, “There were two or three people in the car and it crashed into the divider. The airbags opened up. As the car crashed, a two-wheeler driving behind it also rammed into the vehicle and the rider was injured. The crash displaced 2-3 divider blocks which were pushed to the side by citizens.”

Phad and his neighbour Vishwanath Shilwant said that they had previously approached local police several times but no action was taken. They say that the spot sees frequent accidents as the dividers are not visible to drivers who might be driving fast on the empty road at night.

The Indian Express had spoken to Anirudh Pawaskar, chief engineer (Road) at Pune Municipal Corporation, last month who had assured the department would take necessary action like using radium tape on the divider to prevent accidents at night. However, no action has been taken at the spot. When The Indian Express reached out to him this time, Pawaskar asked that the location be shared with him again.
