Pune Customs Commissionerate destroys 1,033 kg of drugs

The Pune Customs Commissionerate Monday disposed of 1,033 kilogram of drugs seized in nine different cases. The disposal of drugs was carried out under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee and Yashodhan Wanage, the commissioner of Customs, Pune, at the Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited factory, in Ranjangaon, Pune.

A press release stated that the drug disposal was done in line with the Union government’s vision of “Drug Free India” and in the backdrop of the upcoming United Nations ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on June 26.

“These seizures were affected by the dedicated Narcotics Cell of Pune Customs, Commissionerate having jurisdiction of districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Total 19 traffickers were arrested in these operations who are presently in judicial custody,” it further states.

“Drugs seized in various anti-drug operations are routinely destroyed by the Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) after following the prescribed procedure. This exercise was taken up to deliver a strong message to the handlers who engage in drug trafficking,” the press release says.
