(File)Pune: Reposing faith in the party’s sitting legislators in Pune district, the Congress, which declared its first list of 48 candidates on Thursday, announced the candidature of Ravindra Dhangekar from Kasba Assembly seat, Sangram Thopte from Bhor and Sanjay Jagtap from Purandar.
In 2019, the Congress had won only two seats from Pune district while it won the third seat last year in the Kasba bypolls.
Dhangekar had defeated BJP’s Hemant Rasane in the Kasba bypolls after the death of sitting BJP legislator Mukta Tilak. The Congress had fielded Dhangekar in the Lok Sabha elections from Pune seat but he was defeated by Murlidhar Mohol of the BJP.
Other Congress candidates from western Maharashtra include former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan from Karad South in Satara, Ruturaj Patil in Kolhapur South, Rahul Patil in Karvir, Raju Awale in Hatkanangale, Vishwajeet Kadam for Palus Kadegaon, Vikramsinh Sawant from Karvir and Siddharam Mhetre from Akkalkot.
