Pune: 23-year-old student killed in road accident in Lohegaon

A 23-YEAR-OLD engineering student died after falling from her bike after losing control and being run over by a garbage collection dumper of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Vishrantwadi Lohegaon Road in Pune on Tuesday afternoon.

Vishrantwadi police have identified the deceased as Ekta Bharat Patel (23), a resident of Vidyanagar in Pimple Gurav. “Patel was a third year student of engineering at Marathwada Mitramandal Institute of Technology. When she was at the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Chowk on Vishrantwadi Lohegaon Road, she lost balance of the bike and fell down. Moments later she was run over by the rear wheel of the garbage collection dumper of the Pune Municipal Corporation. Because of the serious nature of injuries, she died on the spot.” said Inspector Kanchan Jadhav of Vishrantwadi police station.

“Some witnesses from the location said that Patel lost control of the bike as she may have slipped. We have launched a probe to ascertain the exact cause and sequence of events. The driver of the PMC garbage collection dumper has been detained for questioning.” added Inspector Jadhav.
