The special investigation team (SIT),probing the ransacking of Purnima Prabhus house allegedly by the aides of corporator Deepak Mankar, has given a clean chit to the two policemen who were suspended in the case. SIT has, however, filed a supplementary chargesheet against four persons arrested later.
According to the complaint filed by Prabhu, around 50 people, allegedly sent by Mankar and his brother Shivaji, ransacked her rented house,Mukundananda on F C Road in Shivajinagar,on December 29,2008,to evict her family. Mankar claimed to have purchased the property. The Prabhus claimed that they knew nothing of the ownership transfer and that they had been living in the house as tenants for around 50 years.
Senior inspector Rahulkumar Yeole and sub-inspector Sandeep Ghorpade, then attached to the Shivajinagar police station, were suspended for their alleged failure to take action against the suspects when the attack was on. Prabhu had filed a petition in the High Court demanding Yeole and Ghorpade be made co-accused in this case, alleging that they were part of the conspiracy.
According to the High Court orders, the SIT was set up. DCP (special branch) Makrand Ranade, head of SIT,said,Our investigation revealed that Yeole and Ghorpade were not involved in the crime. He,however, said the departmental inquiry against the two would continue into the allegations thatthey did not reach the crime scene in time and lodged the offence late.
Ranade said the SIT has conducted fair investigation into the case. We have arrested four persons Namdev Chavan,Ashok Chandanshive,Shrikant Remje and Yogesh Patil in four months. They were arrested on the basis of a CD with the video recording of the incident and other evidence produced by Prabhu. We have filed supplementary chargesheet against them. Police had earlier arrested 11 persons in this case, he said.
The SIT has completed its investigation. We have submitted the action taken report to the High Court. Last month the High Court quashed Prabhus petition, he said.
Prabhu said,The HC said if we are not satisfied with the SIT investigation,we can file another petition again. We will do so and continue fighting for justice.
