Porsche crash: Cops secure production warrant of father of minor co-passenger, take custody from prison

A day after the Supreme Court had denied him anticipatory bail, the 47-year-old father of the minor co-passenger in the Porsche crash had surrendered before a court in Pune on Wednesday afternoon.

Pune City Police’s Crime Branch on Thursday secured a production warrant from Pune Court and took custody of the father of the co-passenger in the Porsche crash, who had surrendered before the court on Wednesday and was subsequently lodged in Yerawada Central Prison.

A day after the Supreme Court had denied him anticipatory bail, the 47-year-old father of the minor co-passenger in the Porsche crash had surrendered before a court in Pune on Wednesday afternoon. He was subsequently sent to magisterial custody at Yerawada Central Prison. The father is accused of conspiring to swap his minor son’s blood sample with another man, when the blood samples of those travelling in the Porsche car were being taken at Sassoon General Hospital after the May 19 accident in which two young IT professionals were killed.

“On Thursday, we secured a production warrant for the said accused from the court in Pune. Subsequently, we took him in custody from the Yerawada Central Prison. He will be produced before the court on Friday where we will seek his police custody remand.” said an officer from the Crime Branch.

The police had on October 25 filed draft charges against seven accused in the case. These seven accused include two parents of the minor boy who was allegedly driving the Porsche after consuming liquor, Dr Ajay Taware, 48, former head of the Forensic Medicine Department of Sassoon Hospital, Dr Shrihari Halnor, 35, the casualty medical officer at the time, Atul Ghatkamble, 30, a morgue staff, and two persons who acted as middlemen, Ashpak Basha Makandar, 36, and Amar Santosh Gaikwad, 27. All the above seven persons are currently in prison under judicial custody.

Other than these seven, police have earlier arrested a 37-year-old man who had given his blood to be swapped with that of the minor co-passenger, whose father surrendered before the court on Wednesday. Another 52-year-old man, father of another minor co-passenger, has been also arrested earlier for giving his own blood sample to be swapped with his own son, who was the the second minor co-passenger in the car.

Two IT engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta, both aged 24 and hailing from Madhya Pradesh, were killed after the speeding Porsche driven by the 17-year-old boy allegedly in an inebriated state hit their motorcycle around 2.30 am on May 19 earlier this year.
