Officials from the three police jurisdictions in Pune — Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune Rural Police — said that polling for the Lok Sabha elections in Pune, Maval and Shirur constituencies were held peacefully amidst a heavy security deployment comprising close to 19,000 personnel.

Barring three incidents — one in each of the jurisdictions — in which people were booked for taking cell phones into the polling booths and recording visuals, no other violations of the law were reported. Police teams however responded to a few cases in which groups of people had high-pitched exchanges with polling officials over names missing from the voters’ lists.

Top officials were in praise of the close to 19,000 security personnel — including police, home guards and Central Armed Police Forces personnel — deployed across Pune district, who played a key role in ensuring smooth conduct of the elections.
