Police constable dies in road mishap while on duty

Police Constable Shekhar Bhalchandra Jagtap (38) died in an accident while on duty at Kamshet on Pune-Mumbai expressway on Monday morning.

Police Constable Shekhar Bhalchandra Jagtap (38) died in an accident while on duty at Kamshet on Pune-Mumbai expressway on Monday morning. Jagtap is attached to the Yerwada police station in the city and was a resident of Chandan Nagar in Kharadi.

Police officials said that the accident occurred as vehicle driver Ashok Sharma lost control over the vehicle and rammed it into a divider in Kamshet while the duo were returning to Pune. He sustained severe injuries and was taken to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) where he is undergoing treatment,while Jagtap succumbed to his injuries. Wife and two children survive Jagtap who joined the police force in 1994.

Police officials said that Jagtap had gone to pick Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activist at Bhiwandi in Thane. Kale was externed by the city police for a period of one and a half years due to his involvement in riot cases.
