Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Mayor Chanchala Kodre has sought an explanation from PMPML officers who failed to turn up for the BRTS route visit organised by her to address issues related to the safety of citizens.
The mayor had directed all the officers concerned to be present. However, the PMPML authorities failed to depute its officers for the visit. Their absence speaks of their casual approach in implementing the BRTS project. The officers should give an explaination, she said.
She directed civic officers to clear infrastructure-related hurdles on the BRTS route to ensure safety of citizens. A time-bound programme should be undertaken to complete the work on BRTS route, said Kodre.
The traffic police have urged the PMC administration to appoint adequate number traffic wardens on BRTS route to stop private vehicles from entering the dedicated route for the public transport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said,The issue of signage boards was discussed. We will issue a notification allowing other transport vehicles like mini buses, school buses, private buses on BRTS routes. The action against two-whelers and cars entering the BRTS routes continued on Tuesday. As many as 430 persons were fined, said Pandhare .
