The notice stated that the tax assessment for the property in 2016-17 was not acceptable to the foundation and it approached the court against PMC. “The Bombay High Court hearing the case in 2017 had directed that 50 per cent of general tax and other components of the property tax have to be paid. Accordingly, the dues from 2015 till 2025 are Rs 22.06 crore calculated as per the court order,” the notice stated.

At a meeting held in the office of the municipal commissioner on Monday, verbal orders were issued to begin seizing the property as per provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and court directions for recovery of tax dues, it said.

On Monday, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule had urged the PMC administration to take action for recovering property tax dues from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital with immediate effect. “If common citizens are made to pay property tax on time and face action, then why was no action taken for recovery of tax from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital,” she said.
