In view of the rush to file PT-3 form to avail 40 per cent concession in property tax, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the deadline to submit the form till November 30. So far, a total of 80,000 residential property owners have claimed tax concession by submitting PT-3 forms with relevant documents. "The deadline to file PT-3 form was extended by 15 days from November 15 to 30 after the demand kept increasing," said an officer of the civic property tax department. The PT-3 form is filed to avail a 40 per tax cent concession for self-occupied residential properties. Even after 80,000 forms have been submitted for the concession, PMC is still gtting queries about the tax concession, indicating that more people will be filing PT-3 forms till November 30. The PMC had withdrawn the 40 per cent discount in 2019 after objections by the state audit department. Meanwhile, severe opposition from citizens sent the saw body scrambling to the state government. In April this year, the state government decided to allow the PMC to continue with the decades-old 40 per cent concession scheme on property tax for self-occupied residential properties. Consequently, the 40 per cent concession in the annual taxable value and 15 per cent concession in the annual rent against the existing 10 per cent was restored. PMC had urged citizens to submit all documents to prove their eligibility for availing the benefit of the scheme. However, residents objected, saying it was PMC's failure to verify eligible beneficiaries, due to which they were being unnecessarily troubled. But the civic administration has continued to seek full details to verify their eligibility. The discount scheme was applicable from 1970 after the general body had passed a resolution, citing damage to properties after flooding of the Mutha river due to a breach in Khadakwasla dam in 1961.
