The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has sought Principal Director (PD) Defence Estates permission to convert residential properties in the cantonment area into commercial ones after many people have converted part of their houses into business establishments.
PCB vice-president Sangeeta Pawar, said,The matter of conversion of residential property into commercial property has been refered to the Principal Director. There are some 120 cases pending before the cantonment board in which the people have sought the conversion of their residential properties into commercial ones.
Pawar said there was no difficulty in allowing transferring of property rights in the name of another family member. There is no difficulty in transfer of property from father to his son or other family members. But the difficulty lies in conversion of the residential property into commercial one.
While some officials said allowing random conversions of residential property into commercial one was not a norm, the PCB members said this should be allowed as the people have been complaining about difficulties attached to it.
People have been facing lot of difficulties. The cantonment board has been sitting over the cases and this only promotes underhand dealings, said PCB member Aarti Mahajan. She said the cantonment board has been listing the properties by assigning them house numbers and now that the people have approached it to register the hoses as commercial properties. In few cases, people who live in upper portion of the house and have converted the lower portion into a business establishment will face difficulties in running the business if they do not get it registered.
Mahajan said the members have recently raised the matter with the Director-General Defence Estate, highlighting the problems faced by people due to the restrictions.
We gave it in writing to the DG during his recent visit to the cantonment board to review the present position. We also asked to relax the floor space index (FSI) of properties so that people could repair their houses, she said, adding that the DG assured to look into the matter.
