Pawar falls ill at Kolhapur function,skips visit to Sangli

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who on Sunday felt uneasy and started coughing while delivering a speech in Kolhapur had to cut short his scheduled visit to Sangli.

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who on Sunday felt uneasy and started coughing while delivering a speech in Kolhapur had to cut short his scheduled visit to Sangli. He has reached Pune city and is resting.

“He is fine and resting at his Shivajinagar residence,” NCP leaders said.

Pawar started feeling uneasy while addressing sarpanchs at a conference in Kolhapur. “After five minutes of his speech,he started coughing and discontinued his speech,” said party workers. Pawar flew to Pune in a helicopter and was taken to his residence at Shivajinagar area.

NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakde said,“At the conference of sarpanchs in Kolhapur,he started feeling uneasy. He was immediately shifted to the rest house,where doctors from D Y Patil hospital examined him. He was advised rest and immediately brought to Pune in a chopper. He was feeling fine by evening.” Kakade said. Pawar is taking rest at his home in Modibaug in Shivajinagar and will continue with his public engagements on Monday.

Dr Ravid Bapat,one of the doctors who examined Pawar at his home in Modibaug,said his sugar level and blood pressure were normal. He complained of cough and weakness. “By tomorrow he will be fine,” said the doctor.

Pawar,Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and other leaders were scheduled to attend a programme in Sangli on Sunday afternoon to pay tribute to freedom fighter Nagnath Anna Nayakwadi at Hutatma Kisan Ahir University in Walwa taluka of Sangli.
