A cyclonic storm, Senyar, which is developing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to impact the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with heavy to very heavy rain and squalls, among others. It is also likely to have an impact on Pune’s weather this weekend, but only marginally.
Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD, says that districts, such as Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Solapur and Ratnagiri, will experience light to very light rain in isolated locations due to the depression over the Bay of Bengal. Other regions, such as Marathwada, North Konkan and Vidarbha, are expected to remain mostly dry.
“Cyclonic storm Senyar is likely to form on November 25-26 over South-West Bay of Bengal. The impact over Maharashtra will be on November 22 to 24”, adds Kashyapi. It is important to note that no weather warnings have been issued yet.
The city and neighboring areas have been enjoying clear skies and gradually warming winter temperatures this week due to the weakening of the Northerly winds over this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the sky, which is likely to be mainly clear in the early part of the day, is expected to turn partly cloudy towards the afternoon and evenings of November 22 and 23 due to the impact of the cyclonic circulation.
The day temperature appears to have stabilised around 30 degrees Celsius in most parts of the city over the past few days. The night temperature, which was 11.0 degrees Celsius on Friday, is expected to be marginally higher in the following days of the week.
“As the depression over the Bay of Bengal intensifies, the cloud cover over Pune, and surrounding areas, is likely to increase the night temperature further,” says Kashyapi. The clear skies are expected to return to Pune and its surroundings from Wednesday onwards and it will be pleasant weather next week.
