Over 3000 contractual health staff members protest demanding regularisation of posts

Over 3000 employees of National Health Mission (NHM) staged demonstrations outside the Pune district collectorate to press for their demands which mainly include regularisation of posts.

A government resolution issued in March 2024 had stated that medical officers, nurses, lab technicians and others who have served in the NHM for ten years or more should be absorbed in regular government service.

Dr Nitin Kadam, Medical Officer, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), an innovative initiative that envisages child health screening and early intervention services under NHM told The Indian Express that the GR has not been implemented so far.

Apart from regularisation of services, the employees who are on an indefinite strike under the aegis of ‘National Health Mission Officer Employees’ Integration Committee, Maharashtra’ have also demanded a hike in honorarium, payment of loyalty bonus, health insurance, EPF and a transparent transfer policy.

The employees belong to different health workers’ unions. According to Harshal Ranaware, State coordinator of the NHM contractual staff, at least 16 health workers’ unions have come together for the first time to protest for their demands.
