While the phrase Marriages are made in heaven, might sound clichéd one can definitely add a twist to it by saying that even though they are made in heaven, and solemnised on earth, the Internet is the place that foots the entire occasion so that the newlyweds have a gold plated wedding.
As far as building emotional bonds and enjoying the newly found love in ones life is concerned, mobile phones have solved the quandary to a huge extent for newly engaged couples like us. But these same couples run into dead ends when the preparation for marriage begins, says Brinda Banerjee,an IT professional, who hails from Bengal and works in an IT firm in Hinjewadi.
Banerjee believes in the phrase Where there is a will, there is a way and drawing inspiration from her work, she found a way out of the situation. Though corny, the phrase stands true,at least in my case. My would-be-husband,Mrinmoy Basumalik, works in Delhi and our families are based in Kolkata. It was getting difficult for us to be together and shop for our marriage, which is scheduled on May 27 this year. One day when I was chatting with him,he sent me few pictures of a dress that he had bought for me; this gave me an idea that we can actually use the Internet to shop for our wedding paraphernalia, she explains.
The idea has solved problems of many couples, who stay in different cities and find it difficult to shop together for their wedding. Vipul Shah, jeweller, who owns a shop in the Saraf Market area on Laxmi Road, says,I was not very comfortable with the idea of e-mailing my designs to people. But once, for one of my trusted customers,I mailed the designs of various engagement rings. It was successful and I was able to get orders of all the jewellries for her wedding. Since then I have been offering customers this facility.
The trend says that many newly engaged couples find Internet a convenient medium to shop. Right from e-mailing pictures of wedding trousseau to choosing designs on the World Wide Web,couples are finally finding an easier way to shop and the Internet has found an important place in the big fat Indian wedding.
Anup Raj,whose sister is working in Gujarat, chose the Internet to shop for his sisters wedding gift. I wanted to gift her a diamond pendant, but my sister is very choosy and particular about the designs,so I was not very sure about my choice. I could not rely on the Internet for diamonds,so I chose six to seven rings and sent it to her,and after she decided, the design for which was sent to my jeweler, and was made accordingly.
Rohan Shah, owner of the Hind Sadi Centre says,”Though we dont allow this frequently, but at times, when any of our trusted customer needs it,we dont mind e-mailing the designs. In fact,I have customers, who come from Punjab and Delhi and in that case the Internet becomes an important facility and it helps us to communicate the designs with them. However,we do not give this as a facility and restrict it to a few customers. Now we have a Bridal Festival going on in our shops Hind Sadi Centre and Hind Creations and therefore if people from far of places come with such demand,we consider it.”
