Not Just Another Story

His work leads him to new discoveries everyday,says lyricist Vayu who wrote the song for RGV's recently released film.

Lyricists don’t enjoy the limelight too often, says Vayu cheekily as he sits down to talk about his incidental entry into films. An alumnus of Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication (SIMC),Vayu has already penned songs for Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) films like Rann ,Rakhta Charitra 1&2 ,and for the recently released Not Just Another Love Story. It all started with Rann. Music directors Sandeep and Dharam,who gave the background score for the movie,wanted to make a presentation for RGV and asked me to pen down a few lines for the score. Ramu liked the score and the song and asked me to write a full song,Sikkon Ki Bhook,that was featured in the film, he says.

Vayu,who also dabbles in writing advertising film jingles,believes that he is yet to find his true calling. That is the reason why I haven’t approached anyone for a movie. If the opportunity comes along,I do it. If not,there is something else that always awaits. It is exciting to make new discoveries everyday, he says.

Working on Not Just a Love Story was a challenge,he says. As the film is inspired from a real event (the Maria Susiaraj-Neeraj Grover case),the songs had to be as hard hitting as the subject itself. In fact,initially he (RGV) did not want to use any songs. But music directors Sandeep and Dharam pitched a song titled Jab Se Main Choti Thi ,which made it to the final cut in both sad and happy versions, he says.

The song tells the story of a woman who wants to make it big and achieve success but ends up becoming notorious instead of famous. It is just a harsh manifestation of a childhood dream, says Vayu.

He describes RGV as someone with whom there is no room for compromise. He knows what he wants and what he doesn’t. If he doesn’t like something in the final cut,he will take it out from the film. Hence,there is no knowing what goes into the film till it is released, he says.

The songwriter is working with RGV in his next venture Department. I am making promos,writing new stuff and even working on my single, he says.
