Friday morning saw Arjun Tendulkar, the son of Sachin Tendulkar, take the crease at the same venue where he had made his national tournament debut a year ago,the Cadence Cricket ground in Mundhwa. This was just a day before his father plays the first match of what could probably be the last World Cup,before he retires, for the batting maestro on Saturday. But on Friday,in the Under-13 match against Cadence Cricket Club,Arjun returned to the dressing room even before a handful of spectators could get to see him bat.
After middling the balls with a straight bat,Arjun had his stumps knocked over by an unplayable delivery. He returned to the pavilion scoring just 5.
While Arjun has been training under Chandu Bhatkat and Jagdish Chavan at the MIG Club in Kalanagar,Sachin himself drops in once a week when he is in town to give the entire MIG team valuable tips. Sachin sir visits our practice sessions every Sunday and always gives us tips like playing with a cool head, said one of Arjuns teammates.
The perfectionist that he is when it comes to the game,Sachin is also very strict with his son when it comes to cricket. He keeps a close eye on Arjuns game. When Sachin sir is there,Arjun plays a very defensive game and when he is not,he plays the way he wants, he said.
Both father and son have a style of their own. Arjun flashes his bat at balls more than his father. His stance too is different. However, the 13-year-old has a long way to go in his cricketing career and the whole of India will be hoping that the youngster will be able to follow in his fathers footsteps, said a cricket fan.
On January 23,2010,when Arjun had made his debut,Sachin had hit his 44th Test ton against Bangladesh in Chittagong. This time around Sachin, will be facing the same opposition in Dhaka on Saturday, and India will be hoping for a repeat of last years performance from Sachin.
