The fact-finding committee appointed by the Deccan Education Societys (DES) Law College has come to the conclusion that no ragging took place in the college. The committee was formed after student Prashant Chitalkar committed suicide in Kadambale village in Rahuri taluka of Ahmednagar district on January 24 allegedly due to ragging.
The committee submitted its report to the local management committee of the college on Tuesday. According to chairman of local management committee Vikas Kakatkar,the committee questioned many people regarding the case. As per the report,college will not take any action against the students. However,we will continue to cooperate with the police in their investigations, he said.
When asked whether Prashants father Bandopant Chitalkar,who had lodged the complaint of ragging with Rahuri Police Station,appeared before the committee,Kakatkar said the committee had sent a letter to him but he did not turn up. The committee,however,has talked to Prashants local guardian, he said.
Kakatkar did not divulge other details of the report,saying he was still to read the full report. He,however,said a copy of the 225-page report has been forwarded to Vice-Chancellor of the University of Pune,joint director (higher education),superintendent of police (Ahmednagar),senior police inspector of Deccan Gymkhana police station and DES governing body chairman.
The three-member fact-finding committee under the chairmanship of Rohini Honap was formed as per the UGC guidelines after the Deccan Gymkhana police sent a letter to the DES Law College about the case on January 27. The committee that was supposed to submit its report last Friday had demanded extension to talk to more people.
Meanwhile,Ahmednagar district SP Vijay Chavan said he had not yet seen the report. He added the police investigations would continue.
