There has been increasing support for nine-year-old Aditya Nair who has relapsed with blood cancer and needs a bone marrow transplant that costs nothing less than Rs 50 lakh to save his life. The Indian Express had published a report dated February 11 that highlighted the nine year old’s plight following which well wishers have contributed a sum of Rs 20 lakh.

Aditya was detected with blood cancer when he was two years old. He was given all the required chemotherapy and medication. However it did not cure the cancer. Now he requires to undergo allogenic bone marrow transplant as a life saving treatment. Since there was no matching donor in the family, Dr Vijay Ramanan, haematologist contacted Bharat Stem Cell registry set up in Gurgaon and they were able to zero in on an unrelated matching donor — both from the US and another from France. The transplant cost however works out to an approximate Rs 50 lakh, Ramanan had told The Indian Express.

While the Indian Express report attracted a host of enquiries, Aditya’s father Rajesh Nair and Dr Ramanan also attached links on their respective facebook pages. According to Nair, a page was created on Facebook and also on https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/wnp7 . Both the facebook pages displayed the Indian Express story and a grateful father wrote to this reporter stating that till date they have received Rs 20 lakh. “There is still a deficit of Rs.20 Lacs to be covered and we have been promised financial assistance from tech companies,” Nair said.
