The police said Shelke’s campaign rally continued even after the 10 pm deadline, thereby causing a violation of the rules and conditions laid down by the Election Commission. The rally was organised by Shelke’s supporters Namdev Dabhade from Shirgaon to Somatne Phata on Tuesday evening.

The police booked Shelke and Dabhade under Section 223 (disobeying orders given by public servants) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
