NCP city unit chief Vandana Chavan has said senior party leader Ankush Kakade’s statement, regarding the poor attendance of corporators in the general body meeting of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC),was not the party view as the leader is not a party spokesperson.

Last week, some activists, through an RTI application, had brought into focus the poor attendance of elected representatives in general body meetings, especially the proceedings of the house. Kakade had said that activists should not interfere in the business of corproators and instead contest elections.

Chavan issued a press statement today saying the information about poor attendance is an eyeopener for elected representatives and they should fulfil their responsibilities.

“Citizens have the right to question their elected representatives,” she said adding this is a good democratic practice.

The note further says the statment made by Kakade maligns the image of the party and it might be his personal opinion and not the opinion of the party.”

Chavan said that Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar insists that all the legislators of the party remain present throughout the house proceedings and it is mandatory for corporators to attend the general body meetings in PMC.

“The media should take into account that Kakade has not been appointed as the spokesman of the party,” she said.
