The triple blasts in Mumbai have triggered brisk sales of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the security equipment segment in the city. Post the July 13 blasts, the dealers are inundated with fresh enquiries and requisitions from corporate houses,hotels,malls,small-time shops, temples, residential societies, independent bungalow owners, colleges and schools.

In less than a month, most of the city-based companies that are into the sale of video surveillance systems and security gadgets have witnessed a growth of good 30 per cent in their total sales. The equipment that has escalated the sales figures the most is the CCTV.

He said most customers prefer CCTV cameras with one month recording time. “The cameras can be customised according to the requirement of the customer. If one needs recording time of 15 days,it can be configured as per the need. The system comes with an overwriting facility that automatically deletes the old data after a month,” says Bhapevara.

The most popular cameras are those with DVR machine with remote access. It comes with internet connection facilty along with the feature that connects the device to a mobile phobne and a laptop.

At Nextgen Security, the hike in the sales volume post the blast is 15 per cent. Sumant Dhumal, director of Nextgen attributes it to the infrequent set of customers like Ganesh mandals, housing societies and shopkeepers. “Everyone has become security conscious. CCTV camera is a panic buy,” he said.

Other CCTV dealers whose sales figures are up by more than 25 per cent are Security Planet near Hadapsar and Scotland Securities on Bajirao Road. Ganesh Pardeshi of Scotland Securities said apart from the CCTV cameras, the demand for hand-held metal detector has also gone up. The firm has already sold around 20 pieces of the same.
