‘Modern sub-machine carbines ready for trials’

The modern sub-machine carbines, being developed by Armaments Research Development Institute, are ready for trials, said Director Anil Datar on Friday.

The modern sub-machine carbines (MCMSs),being developed by Armaments Research Development Institute (ARDE),are ready for trials, said Director Anil Datar on Friday. Datar was addressing the media on the sidelines of a seminar on simulations systems in defence organised by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce,Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).

“We’ve given the final version to the Army, but the final call has to be taken by them. MCMSs are ready for trials in difficult terrains and users can fire up to a range of 200 metres. The large scale manufacturing of these weapons will be taken up by the Ordnance Factory. The Indian Army is eager to have them as soon as possible,” said Datar.

MCMSs are very light weight, compact guns. The trials are to take place in terrains and are expected to be particularly important for handling terrorist attacks.

Talking at the seminar,Datar said,“Today ARDE is running 31 projects but we’re battling acute manpower shortage. At this juncture,we need the industry to step in. Our design partner from Larsen and Toubro as well as Tata have played a very important role in various capacities. “

Brig (Retd) SB Ghorpade, chairman, defence committee,MCCIA,said that development of better simulation systems in defence establishments will help develop a roadmap for the future and an increased awareness of simulations is the need of the hour.
