MNC employee,wife held for jewellery theft

According to the CCTV footage,the couple had entered the shop as customers and kept the salesperson busy on the pretext of choosing an ornament for Geetika on July 23. Meanwhile,Akshay opened a drawer and stole the ornaments. They had carried out the second theft in a similar fashion. A complaint in this regard was lodged on July 25 by the managers of two jewellery outlets. The duo has been booked by Bundgarden and Cantonment police.

Prabhakar Patil,Assistant Commissioner of Police,Crime Branch,said,“One of our constables,Sanjay Dalvi,had the information about their whereabouts. We came to know that they stayed at a rented apartment at Pashan-Baner Link Road. They were arrested after we confirmed their identity. We have recovered the stolen jewellery,including a gold bracelet,two gold necklaces and some earrings,worth Rs 3.25 lakh.”

Inspector Suresh Kekane said,“As per the statements given by the accused,Akshay is a graduate in instrumentation engineering and is working with a multinational financial company in Hinjewadi. He earns Rs 1.5 lakh per month. Geetika is an MBA graduate and a housewife. The couple also has a son.”

He added,“We are yet to find whether they have any police record and are investigating more about their past.”
