Puneites gave a mixed mandate to the husband-wife pairs that were in the fray. Of the six couples that contested PMC polls,in two cases,both husband and wife won,in two both lost and in another two,the wives won while husbands were defeated. However,in Pimpri-Chinchwad,voters rejected husband wife duos. Tukaram and Sunita Bhondawe of Congress and Santosh and Sarika Landage,Independent,lost.
In Pune,MNS candidates Rajendra and Vaneeta Wagaskar who were contesting from Panels 21 A and 21 B emerged victorious,and Usha and Subhash Jagtap won from 68 A and 68 B. Rajendra beat NCPs Rahul Dhole-Patil,son of former mayor Ulhas Dhole-Patil and Congress Yogesh Pingale. Vaneeta beat Sangeeta Tiwari. But not all were as lucky. Congress Shankar Pawar contesting from Panel 52 A lost to NCPs Vinayak Hanamgar while his wife Pooja Pawar,who contested from 53 A,lost to Manjushree Nagpure of the BJP.
Pune Janhit Aghadi corporator Ujjwal Keskar and his wife Purva lost in their respective panels. Ujjwal was contesting from Panel 32 (Hingne Stree Shikshan Sanstha) and earned 2,580 votes. He was defeated by MNS candidate Rajesh Barate who got 7,613 votes. Purva was contesting from the same panel on seat reserved for OBC (women) and polled 2,503 votes,but two-time corporator Medha Kulkarni won with 8,039 votes.
