Minor booked for knocking down 60-yr-old motorcyclist

The city police have booked a a 15-year-old boy for allegedly knocking down a 60-year-old motorcyclist on Sunday.

The city police have booked a a 15-year-old boy for allegedly knocking down a 60-year-old motorcyclist on Sunday. Balasaheb Dagdu Shedge,a resident of Jai Bhavani Nagar in Paud Road,died in the accident that took place near Vitthal Mandir in Navi Peth around 9.30 am.

Police said the minor was riding a two-wheeler on Sunday. Due to his alleged negligence,his two-wheeler collided head on with a motorcycle coming from the front. Shedge collapsed and received serious injuries. He was admitted to a nearby hospital but reportedly succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile,Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said traffic control branch will launch a drive against those who give vehicles to minors. “Giving vehicle to minors is illegal. It is an act of negligence. As per Motor Vehicle Act,we can take action against owners of such vehicles.”

220 booked for drunk driving

The traffic control branch have booked as many as 220 people for drunk driving as part of a special drive on since August 5. A release issued by traffic police said action will continue against drunk driving.

Police said 1,749 people were booked and a fine of Rs 32.24 lakh was recovered from them between January 1 and July 31.
