Mobility acertained
The Rotary Club of Poona Downtown recently distributed 42 tricycles to physically challenged people as a part of their Gift a Mobility project for the rehabilitation of the physically challenged. The event was held at the Ramakrishna Math and was presided over by the President of Rotary International-John Kenny.
Project director (Gift a Mobility Project) Shabbir Jamnagarwalla said,The main reason behind starting this project was to enable people from the lower strata of society to be self sufficient and be able to perform their tasks successfully. Till now about 927 people have benefited from this project,and we hope to increase the numbers of those benefited in the future too.
Cheti Chand to be celebrated today
The Bhartiya Sindhu Sabha will be celebrating the Sindhi New Year today at the Tilak Ayurveda Hostel Ground near Cycle Society,from 5.30 pm onwards. Close to 4,000-5,000 people are expected to attend the same according to general secretary of the Bhartiya Sindhu Sabha,Suresh Hemnani.
The event will start with the traditional Pooja offering to Sant Jhulelal,which will then be followed by various social and cultural programmes. Traditional and modern dances,Sindhi Cultural Dandiya (Chhej) and a Sindhi food festival will also be organised on the occasion. Koshi Lalwani,film producer will be the guest of honour and Radhakishin Bhagia joint general secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Sindhu Sabha will be the chief guest for the occasion.
Oriya Dance and Drama Festival held
The Utkal Samaj recently held the Oriya dance and Drama Festival on April 14 at the Nehru Memorial Hall wherein Oriya students presented Odissi dance programmes and the Oriya drama troupe Panchama Veda also performed a drama Full Tension for the audience.
Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated
The Dalit Panther of India,recently on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti organised a huge procession to mark the 118th birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The procession,which began from the Kashewadi,went through Pudumjee Chowk,Babajan Chowk,Bhimpura,MG Road,Westend Chowk and terminated near the Ambedkar Statue at the Westend Chowk. The national president of the Dalit Panther organisation,Bapusaheb Bhosale,led the procession.
The residents of the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Bibwewadi celebrated the birth anniversary of the author of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar on April 14 during which the residents offered prayers and sang songs in his memory.
A free eye camp was also held for the residents of the place by the local youths of the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
New Kendriya Sanghatana of Nair Society
The City based Pune Nair Service Society (PNSS),which had six separate offices throughout the city will now be amalgamated and be jointly represented under a new Kendriya Sanghatana. The new Sanghatana will be for all the Nair Families residing within the district and will incorporate all the members of the six different branches of the PNSS.
MV Nambiar,vice-president,PNSS says,Earlier we had branches at places like Khadki,Pune,Dehu road,Hadapsar,Pimpri and Chinchwad. However at a meeting held on April 5 elected members of all the six branches unanimously voted for the creation of a new organisation,which will include all the Nair families of all the six branches and their members.
Under this new organisation we hope to carry on work for the betterment and development not only the members but also of all the people of different strata of the society, he adds.
