Meet city’s English-speaking,computer literate auto drivers

The English and computer course has been designed by city-based Suryadatta Group of Institutes.

Sanjay Chordia,chairman,Suryadatta Group of Institutes said,“The response to this social initiative has been great and we will continue this programme. In the next batch,we will hold the same course for Pune police. People from different parts of the country travel to Pune every day. In order to give them a better service and to boost the confidence of rickshaw drivers we announced English and IT awareness programmes.”

The course comprises basic grammar and sentence formations. The computer training included basic computing skills and MS Office. “I can now type out letters in English on a computer which I did not believe was possible for me till a year ago. It is indeed a proud moment for me,” said Santosh Sarak,another rickshaw driver.

Deepak Shikarpurkar,IT entreprenuer and chairman,IT committee MCCIA,said,“Spoken English and Computer is the need of the hour. Mobiles too have become a necessity and rickshaw drivers should start a ‘call on service’ to facilitate customers. “

“All of us are inspired to do something for our city. We will meet in January to discuss our plan for a customers’ website,” said Kulkarni. Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal,Deputy Mayor Prasanna Jagtap,social worker Kumar Saptarshi and W N Gade,Director,Board of College and University Development attended the function.
