Parents and teachers have an opportunity to understand what constructivism in education means for the benefit of children. A 40-episode series, directed by the award winning duo of Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar and produced by Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) will be aired on Doordarshans Marathi channel from Sunday.
The serial narrates how constructivism can be incorporated in day-to-day learning of children to ensure their all-round development. Titled as Mazi Shala (my school),the serial portrays teachers from different backgrounds as protagonists who are carrying out novel experiments in the field of education to make it attractive for students.
Bhave said each episode would be self-complete story in itself, but yet all the 40 episode would be connected to a common theme.
Our present educational system often fails to accept the concept of multiple intelligence among children and their grooming as per specific endowed talent. The theory of constructivism in education plays crucial role towards proper upbringing of child. We want to disseminate tenants of this theory through medium of television among teachers and parents, she said.
Sukthankar said around half a dozen episodes of serial have been already shot. We have shot the serial in and around Pune so far. Different educational experts and activists are being consulted while making every episode. We hope our serial would prove effective in spreading knowledge about constructivism, he said. The serial will be telecast every Sunday at 9.30 am and repeat show will be telecast at 9 pm every Saturday. The episodes will also available on MKCLs website http://www.mkcl.org/mazishala.
