MANS campaign draws huge response

“Public mobilisation is critical to ensure that this legislation is not stalled once again… It’s not a struggle between religion and science. It’s a struggle between reason and ignorance exploited by vested interests. We must ensure that the law is enacted in Maharashtra so that India may move forward towards a more humane and enlightened society,” a public appeal made through ‘Act Now!’ reads. A few days after Dabholkar was murdered,the state had promulgated an ordinance to bring into effect the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other inhuman,Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act 2013. It is now set to be tabled before the Assembly to get enacted as law.

MANS executive president Avinash Patil said ‘Act Now!’ campaign has evoked excellent response. “The law is against fraudulent and exploitative practices. The ordinance is clear about the fact that proposed law is against the evil and sinister practices thriving on ignorance and not against God or any religion. The law aims to bring social awakening and should be passed at the earliest,” he said.

Patil said eminent personalities,like social worker Dr Prakash Amte,science writer Achyut Godbole,actress Sonali Kulkarni and director Atul Pethe have extended support. MANS is scheduled to submit its district-wise response to the campaign to the chief minister ahead of the Winter session of Assembly that begins from December 9.
