Man nabbed for trying to rape nun

A man allegedly tried to rape a 29-year-old trainee nun as she slept in her hostel room on the premises of a church early on Thursday.

A man allegedly tried to rape a 29-year-old trainee nun as she slept in her hostel room on the premises of a church early on Thursday. Police said the suspect,Suresh Tulshiram Bengale,also got injured when he tried to flee after the victim raised an alarm.

The victim registered a complaint at the Bundgarden police station. As per the complaint,she was asleep around 12.15 am when the suspect,who works as a waiter at a nearby restaurant,entered her room.

Inspector (crime) with Bundgarden police station S B Nikam said,Bengale entered the room of the victim through the door,which was open. He physically assaulted her and tried to rape her. When she raised an alarm,he ran away. As he was trying to flee,he fell down and got injured. We later came to know that he was drunk.

The suspect is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and has been placed under detention,said a police officer.

He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code Section 376 for rape and the relevant section for trespassing. Police are also trying to find out how he managed to enter the premises of the hostel.
