According to the officials, Nawaziz succumbed to the injuries in the hospital (Representative image)A 47 year old building contractor died after he fell from the fourth floor of a building where a team of the Pune city police conducted a raid during combing operations on Friday night.
Police said the deceased was a resident of Wadgaon Budruk at Sinhagad Road. As per procedure, a case of accidental death was registered at the Sinhagad Road police station and a probe was launched to confirm the cause behind the death.
Since there were repeated incidents of firing and the use of firearms over the last few days, the crime branch of Pune city police carried out a combing operation against illegal activities and history sheeters in different parts of the city.
Around 9.30 pm, as the police team conducted checks in Wadgaon Dhayari area, a few persons who had gathered at a building started to run, prompting the cops to chase after them. Some of the men escaped by descending from the plumbing pipes of the building. Police suspected the building contractor too was coming down holding a pipe, but he slipped and fell to the ground.
Cops took him to a hospital, but died as a result of severe injuries. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam initiated an inquiry into the matter. Police were probing whether any illegal activities were underway at the building where the incident took place. Prima facie, police suspect that fearing legal action, the deceased died while trying to escape from the spot.
