A medical shopowner allegedly attempted his wifes murder over an alleged affair and then committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on Saturday afternoon. Police identified the deceased as Kiran Salunkhe (35),a resident of Balaji Nagar. His injured wife,identified as Shital (31) who was staying at Tingre Nagar after seperating from Kiran,was admitted to a hospital. An offence in the case was registered at Vishrantwadi police station.
Police inspector P BN Gofne said the incident took place around 2.45 pm. Primary investigation revealed that Shital was working with a software firm while Kiran owned a medical shop in Sadashiv Peth area, he said.
Police said Kiran and Shital got married in 2000. They,however,started living separately owing to differences. The couple had also moved court for divorce and the matter is still pending in court,police said.
Police said Kiran came to know that Shital was having an affair and was planning marriage after divorce. He got upset and went to Shitals residence where he allegedly attacked her with a weapon.
Shital received injuries but somehow managed to run out of the house shouting for help. Soon,local residents gathered at the spot and rushed her to a private hospital. Meanwhile,Kiran hanged himself from a ceiling fan in Shitals room. Police said Shital was undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
