The survey for land acquisition for the Purandar International Airport will start from April 1. District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the survey would use drones and villages where land acquisition would happen would be taken into consideration.

On Friday, P Velrasu, Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), chaired a high-powered meeting in Pune to take stock of the project. A statement issued by the District Information Officer (DIO) said the international airport would be spread over 2,832 hectares. The government has earmarked Rs 4.8 crore as the fees for the survey of the land.

The survey would take note of the land earmarked for the project and the present condition, constructions/condition of the land. A crop survey of the land would be done. Before the survey is done, the villagers would be taken into confidence and official notices for the survey would be issued. Surveys would take place only after the proper process has been followed.

Senior revenue officials including divisional commissioner Chandrakant Phulkundwar were present at the meeting. The meeting also discussed the process of issuance of the official Government Resolution, nitty gritty of the drone survey, details of government land, forest land and other technical details of the process.

The Purandar airport project was sanctioned when Devendra Fadnavis became the chief minister in 2014. At present, the existing Pune International Airport has reached its capacity and the call for a full-fledged international airport has been high on the agenda of Pune industry. Since Fadnavis had taken over for the second time, the project has caught steam. Dudi had earlier indicated that land acquisition would be completed as early as possible.
